Eligibility Criteria
Age Limit (as on 01-07-2026)
Minimum: 18 years
Maximum: 30 years
OBC (NCL): 33 years | SC/ST: 35 years | Railway Staff (3yr+): up to 40–45 years
Educational Qualification
Option A — 10th Pass + ITI:
Candidates must hold a Matriculation/SSLC (10th pass) certificate plus an ITI certificate from an NCVT/SCVT recognised institution in one of the following trades: Fitter, Electrician, Instrument Mechanic, Millwright/Maintenance Mechanic, Electronics Mechanic, Mechanic (Motor Vehicle), Mechanic (Radio & TV), Wireman, Tractor Mechanic, Armature & Coil Winder, Mechanic (Diesel), Heat Engine, Turner, Machinist, or Refrigeration & Air-Conditioning Mechanic.
Course Completed Act Apprenticeship in the above trades is also accepted in place of ITI.
Option B — 10th Pass + Engineering Diploma:
A 3-year Diploma in Mechanical, Electrical, Electronics or Automobile Engineering (or combination streams) from a recognised institution is accepted in lieu of ITI. A full Engineering Degree in these disciplines is also acceptable.
Important: Candidates who are still awaiting their final exam results are not eligible to apply.
Medical Standard — A-1 (Strict)
The post of ALP carries Medical Standard A-1, which is one of the most stringent medical standards in Indian Railways. Candidates must meet the following vision requirements without glasses:
Distant Vision: 6/6, 6/6 in both eyes (fogging test, must not accept +2D)
Near Vision: Sn 0.6, 0.6 in both eyes
Must pass tests for Colour Vision, Binocular Vision, Field of Vision, Night Vision and Mesopic Vision
Candidates who have undergone LASIK or any other corrective eye surgery are NOT eligible for this post. This disqualification applies regardless of the current vision level achieved after surgery.
The post is also not suitable for Persons with Benchmark Disability (PwBD).

Selection Process — 5 Stages
Stage 1: First Stage CBT (CBT-1)
A screening test of 75 questions in 60 minutes covering Mathematics (20), Mental Ability (25) and General Science (30). Negative marking: 1/3 mark per wrong answer. CBT-1 marks are not counted in the final merit — they are only used to shortlist candidates for CBT-2 (15 times the vacancies, RRB-wise).
Stage 2: Second Stage CBT (CBT-2)
CBT-2 has two parts:
Part-A (90 minutes, 100 questions): Mathematics, General Intelligence & Reasoning, Basic Science & Engineering. Minimum pass: 40% (UR/EWS), 30% (OBC/SC), 25% (ST).
Part-B (60 minutes, 75 questions): Trade-specific qualifying test. Minimum 35% required for all categories. Part-B marks are NOT counted in merit — only qualifying in nature.
Stage 3: Computer Based Aptitude Test (CBAT)
Candidates equal to 8 times the ALP vacancies are shortlisted for CBAT based on Part-A of CBT-2. CBAT is conducted in English and Hindi only. There is no negative marking in CBAT. A minimum T-score of 42 marks in each test battery is mandatory to qualify.
Stage 4: Document Verification (DV)
Original certificates are verified at this stage. All documents must be produced on the date of DV — no extension of time is given.
Stage 5: Medical Examination (ME)
The final medical test is conducted by Railway Medical Authorities as per Medical Standard A-1. Failing the medical examination means no alternative post will be offered.
Final Merit = 50% CBT-2 Part-A marks + 50% CBAT score

Written Examination / Computer Based Test (CBT) — Objective type test with questions from relevant trade/discipline, General Knowledge, and General English/Hindi. Duration: 2 hours. Negative marking of 0.25 marks per wrong answer. Exam is bilingual (Hindi + English).

Trade / Skill Test — Practical trade test for Junior Technician posts (W-1 grade) — qualifying in nature. For Supervisor and Officer posts, the skill test may be replaced by a personal interview or group discussion. Marks may or may not be counted in merit depending on the post.

Document Verification — Original ITI / Diploma / Degree certificates, marksheets, caste certificate, domicile proof, date of birth certificate, and identity proof must be produced in original. Any discrepancy may lead to disqualification.

Medical Examination & Security Clearance — Standard government medical fitness test. All selected candidates must undergo a security verification process as SPMCIL/CNP Nashik is a high-security government facility. Joining is subject to clearance from security agencies.
